Conceived from one of the greatest masterpieces of Goryeo (918-1392) celadon, this small ceramic vase exhibits a melon-shaped body with the mouth featuring a six-petal blossom of morning glory nicely flaring out. The figure of this porcelain vase has been widely praised for the elegant jade blue glaze as well as the form maintaining great balance, symmetry and volume. The white chrysanthemum blossoms are expressed through traditional white-clay inlaying, while their red centers are made through the red-copper paint technique, and the stalks and leaves are carved in intaglio. One of the "four noble beings" (sagunja) symbolizing fidelity and loyalty, the chrysanthemum has been one of the most favorite subjects used for adorning craftworks as it blooms until late autumn, thus overcoming the frost.
