Olive Jar Pottery with Buncheong Sotdae Design in Brown

This buncheong olive jar pottery features a wide mouth, bulged body and comparatively narrow base. The body is decorated with thick slanting brush strokes and a band of sotdae in the sgraffito technique. Sotdae, wooden totem poles with one or more birds on top erected in groups or pairs at the entrance of Buddhist temples or villages, were worshiped as village guardians and were also used as landmarks for travelers.
