Red Flower Ceramic Vase with Celadon Two Ears and Orchid Design

Traditionally, the surface of Korean celadon ceramic ware is covered with "ice cracks," a network of fine craze lines produced either intentionally, because some connoisseurs admired it, or accidentally. The cracks are caused by the glaze and clay body contracting at different rates as they cool after the second firing. However, this particular red flower ceramic vase wasn't made with such cracks. This celadon ceramics vase features an elegant oval body decorated with a full-bloomed orchid copper painted and carved in relief. The orchid, one of the "four noble beings" (sagunja), that emits a fragrant aroma in a deep valley, symbolizes a noble sage leading an austere life. Read More
